New Years Day Hikes – Jan. 1, 2019

First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to get people outdoors, with over 400 hikes scheduled this year in all 50 states. Kids and adults all across America will be participating in First Day Hikes, getting their hearts pumping and enjoying the beauty of a state park.

A perfect time to kick off your New Year’s resolution to get out and exercise! Snow or no snow, we will hike or snowshoe on a groomed snowshoe/hiking trail. Bring your camera – we will be hiking through woods and prairie to the bluffs along the St. Croix River. The trail is about 3.5 miles in length, a few hills and suitable for all ages. Meet at Standing Cedars, the Englewood parking lot. The hike will be led by SCRA Executive Director Deb Ryun. More information.

More than 30 candlelight events are scheduled at Minnesota state parks and trails this winter, starting Dec. 31 and continuing through early March, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

“Few things transform a winter evening like soft light on snow,” said Erika Rivers, director of Minnesota state parks and trails. “Candles and lanterns help to create an unforgettable experience, especially beneath the light from a starry sky and full moon.”
