There is too much art being created and experienced along the lower St. Croix River for any one person to know about everything. That’s why a new project from ArtReach St. Croix is offering recommendations from local residents, who share their favorites places, activities, and adventures — from live theater to brewery taprooms.

The ‘Insider Itineraries’ are meant to help promote the St. Croix Valley as an arts destination for tourists — and also help locals strengthen their sense of place. It includes a brochure available around the area, and a website with themed recommendations.

Art on a Dime – Alana Cuellar, potter

Start your journey here: Zephyr Theater, Stillwater, MN
“The St. Croix Film Society puts on independent movies here. I love seeing old films on the big screen and having that communal viewing experience with others.”

Go with the Flow – Greg Seitz, writer, Paul Creager, community organizer

Start your journey here: Brookside Bar & Grill, Marine on St. Croix, MN
“When we have a day to bum around, we start at the Brookside, where food is served on pottery from local potter Guillermo Cuellar. Then we head north or south along the river, stopping at artist studios, catching live music, and hiking along the bluffs.”

Story of 360

One of the biggest challenges facing the St. Croix River is harmful blooms of algae in in the lower river, due to excess nutrients in runoff. The goal is to restore the river by reducing phosphorus levels to 360 tons/year. Learn more »
