It’s obviously high season in the river valley. The St. Croix National Scenic Riverway shared the following schedule for the upcoming week.

Stillwater Islands Program. Join a National Park Ranger on a pontoon boat for a presentation about the historic and fragile Stillwater Islands, an area laced with narrow, tree-covered sand islands and lined by steep limestone bluffs.  Every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.  Reservations required. (715) 483-2274.

Down by the River Film Series features Badlands Suite about Badlands National Park.  There will be an interactive children’s activity about endangered species in our National Parks offered while the movie is going. Friday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m.  St. Croix River Visitor Center.

Fly Fishing Workshops. Saturday, June 11 at William O’Brien State Park and Sunday, June 12 at Minnesota Interstate State Park.  9:00 to 3:00 each day. Vehicle pass required for entry.

A Different Pace:  The St. Croix by Kayak. Hear why the St. Croix is such a special place to explore and where the best kayaking spots are. Learn about the different types of kayaks, modern gear, basic paddle strokes, and what to pack for a non-motorized adventure.  Take a kayak out for quick spin to find out which boats and paddles you enjoy the most. Saturday, June 11, 6:00 p.m.  Wisconsin Interstate State Park, Lake O’ the Dalles beach. Vehicle pass required for entry.

Upcoming:

Rivers Are Alive. Step into the Namekagon River with nets and discover what lies beneath the water’s surface. Bring water shoes and dress for getting wet! Meet at Phillipi Landing on Randysek Road in Cable. Saturday, June 18, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Summer Solstice Paddle. Meet a National Park Ranger to paddle from Wisconsin or Minnesota Interstate State Park to Osceola Landing, observing and learning about the river at twilight on the brink of summer.   Sunday, June 19, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Vehicle pass required.  Participants must provide own canoe/kayak, gear and shuttle.  Register by calling (715) 483-2274.
