Several events are coming up from the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway (which, by the way, has a new Facebook page):

High Water! The river is on the rise after heavy rains. Check the park’s website for the latest river conditions and stay safe out there.

The Down by the River Film Series is back for its second year! In Yellowstone: A Symphony of Fire and Water discover why over half of the world’s geysers are found in Yellowstone National Park. Hear the sights and sounds of the park in this 23-minute film. Friday, June 1 at 6:00 p.m. St. Croix River Visitor Center.

Bird Walk. Join National Park Service Biologist Robin Maercklein for a bird walk through the forest and prairie of Englewood at Standing Cedars Community Land Conservancy, south of Osceola. Saturday, June 2 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. Meet at the parking lot with kiosk located on 280th Street just north of 20th Avenue.

Make your reservation for the next Watershed Moments Paddle. Join a National Park Ranger to learn the conservation history of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and enjoy the early morning quiet as you paddle its placid waters. This paddle will take place on the St. Croix River from Osceola Landing to William O’Brien State Park on Sunday, June 10, from 7:15 a.m. to noon. The cost is $25.00 per person. Space is limited to 8 participants. To register, contact the River Association at (715) 483-3300 or www.stcroixriverassociation.org. Registration deadline is June 3.

Upcoming:

Stillwater Islands Program. Join a National Park Ranger on a pontoon boat for a presentation about the historic and fragile Stillwater Islands, an area laced with narrow, tree-covered sand islands and lined by steep limestone bluffs. Wednesdays in June, July and August. Reservations required. (715) 483-2274.

Down by the River Film Series on Friday, June 8 at 6:00 p.m. St. Croix River Visitor Center.

Fly Fishing Workshops. Saturday, June 9 at William O’Brien State Park and Sunday, June 10 at Wild River State Park. 9:00 to 3:00 each day. Vehicle pass required for entry.

Story of 360

One of the biggest challenges facing the St. Croix River is harmful blooms of algae in in the lower river, due to excess nutrients in runoff. The goal is to restore the river by reducing phosphorus levels to 360 tons/year. Learn more »
