The TPT series about Minnesota artists, MN Original, featured Shafer, MN potter Guillermo Cuellar on Sunday’s episode, which is also available to watch online. Cuellar makes his home near the bluffs of the St. Croix; signs advertising his studio lure travelers from Minnesota Highway 95 just north of the turn to Osceola, WI.

Cuellar is Venezuelan, but has lived in Shafer since 2005. He was inspired by another local potter, the highly-regarded Warren Mackenzie of Grant, MN, who he took classes from and worked with at his studio. Now, Cuellar calls the St. Croix River Valley a global “mecca” for pottery.
