The inaugural Cove Art Festival on Sept. 19 will not only offer art for sale, it will benefit Carpenter Nature Center’s 300 acres of protected land in Wisconsin. The event will take place on the nature center’s preserve south of Hudson.

Stained glass artist Steve King has organized the festival as a means to bring attention to the land near his home. He says several artists will be selling their art and answering questions. The artists include sculptors, painters, glass designers, wood-workers, potters, jewelry-makers and a nature photographer.

Other entertainment will include live raptors and reptiles on display, and “at a reasonable distance from the raptors, a pair of well-respected musicians will be performing throughout the day.”

A portion of all proceeds will benefit Carpenter Nature Center, which has a well-established property on the Minnesota side of the river, but is still working to open up its Wisconsin lands to the public. “The Wisconsin side is rather unknown and needs some support so it , too, can be intelligently developed and utilized,” King says.

Story of 360

One of the biggest challenges facing the St. Croix River is harmful blooms of algae in in the lower river, due to excess nutrients in runoff. The goal is to restore the river by reducing phosphorus levels to 360 tons/year. Learn more »
