The documentary film “Where the Yellowstone Goes” will make its Namekagon River premiere on July 16th, 7 PM, in Hayward at the Park Theater. The event features fly-fishing guide Robert Hawkins, who led the epic trip and now owns Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop in Lake Elmo, MN.

Seeking to immerse themselves in one of America’s fabled rivers, filmmaker Hunter Weeks, fourth- generation Montanan Hawkins, and a team of travelers’ braved rapids, storms, oil spill pollution, and other challenges to discover the beauty of the Yellowstone and the complex relationship that people along its course have with the river.

“This is a story about life on one of our greatest, most-preserved rivers. It explores some serious conservation issues along with great fishing, but ultimately is about each of our lives and the impact we make while we’re here,” said Weeks.

After a screening of the film, Hawkins will answer questions and share stories from the making of the movie. There will be a cash bar and opportunities for attendees to socialize with other river fans.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at www.stcroixriverassociation.org or at the door. Proceeds will support Leonard’s Gage, a USGS-operated flow & temperature gage on the Namekagon River. The gage provides information to scientists on flow and temperature; trip planning information for recreational paddlers, fishermen, and outfitters; and public safety information during high river flow.
