The city of Stillwater is dipping its toes into the municipal dock waters. For the first time this summer, sixteen boat slips are available for use by boaters at no charge, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The city has leased the slips from the St. Croix Boat & Packet Co. for this summer season. Four of the slips will be available for overnight use (three night maximum stay). Electricity and water hookups will be available with a small fee, , according to the Pioneer Press.

The slips are often hidden from view to boaters on the water, but can be found behind the large Andiamo paddlewheeler and other excursion boats, just south of the Dock Café.

As the city plans for its new Bridgeview Park, it is considering including a full municipal dock at the site south of downtown. This summer’s free slips are designed to provide some experience in meeting the needs of boaters and the community, the Stillwater Gazette reports.
