The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with federal and state partners to re-establish the endangered winged mapleleaf mussel in the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Service divers check for reproducing mussels in the St. Croix River in the late summer and early fall for use in recovery of the species.
