Stillwater Fat Bike Rally
Jan. 23 – 24, 2021
601 North Main Street Stillwater, MN 55082
Proceeds benefit Stillwater Mountain Bike Team

All participants will get a virtual swag bag to local shops & restaurants plus cash prizes for the winners.

As part of the Wintertime in Stillwater festivities, this event will be contactless, and will have a large window of time during its 2 days to self-space and complete the course (more than once if you choose). Participants can either ‘ride’ or ‘race’ the course; with the 3 designated timed racing segments along the course being the only portions that should be raced! Both fat-bikes and mountain bikes will be allowed, but should the course be soft, fat bikes may be your only rideable choice!

Dates/Times: Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th January 2021. Earliest start is 8am, and all need to finish by 5pm. Participants can start the event on one or both of the two days.

Location/Course: Start (and finish) on the bike path at the north end of Stillwater’s riverfront Lowell Park (near Browns Creek Trail Parking Lot, 432 Mulberry St. E. Stillwater, MN 55082). Riders join the new St Croix Crossings Bike Loop Trail and head clockwise on the trail crossing the St Croix River on the old lift bridge, up the 0.5 mile 8% Houlton Hill and winding back into into Oak Park Heights via the new spectacular Hwy 36/64 bridge, onto (or bi-pass) the mountain bike trails at Valley View Park, and returning into Stillwater paralleling the St Croix River. Participants can choose to ‘ride’ the entire 10-mile course (including the Houlton Hill 0.5 mile) segment, or by-pass the 2 technical ‘racing’ segments in Valley View Park (1.2 miles & 1.5 miles) shortening their course to 7.3 miles.

Parking: Available on streets and in many surrounding parking lots.

Racers: If not already using the Strava athletic activity tracking app, ‘racing’ participants will need to join the Strava app, join Strava’s “Wintertime Fat Bike Rally 2021” club (https://www.strava.com/clubs/783652), and also be at Strava’s ‘subscription’ level to be tracked for awards. (Verify Strava’s periodic 60-day free trial periods, or only $7.99/mth or $5.00 if paid annually.) The course may be ‘ridden’ or ‘raced’ as many times as each participant wants during the 2-day period at no additional cost, but racing segments must be completed in order, and as a part of each 10-mile complete course.

Registration fees: Adults (18+) $25.00, Youth (12-17) $15.00. It is not recommended that children (<11) attempt this ride. Pre-registration is mandatory (COVID recommendation), no refunds.

Story of 360

One of the biggest challenges facing the St. Croix River is harmful blooms of algae in in the lower river, due to excess nutrients in runoff. The goal is to restore the river by reducing phosphorus levels to 360 tons/year. Learn more »
