As you may be aware, in September the Town of Farmington enacted a six month moratorium on accepting new applications for mining in the Township. The purpose of the moratorium was to give the Town the time it felt it needed to complete and enact a new mining ordinance.

Despite that action by the Board, North 40 Resources, the owner of the existing mine, has recently “applied” for a permit to mine an additional 193.5 acres adjacent to the existing mine just outside the Village of Osceola.

The Town Board is calling a special meeting this Friday morning for the purpose of discussing, with the Town’s attorney, the terms of this new mining ordinance.
