Steve King is Art Director of the Carpenter Art Festival.
The Carpenter Nature Center has two separate locations. The most established one is in Hastings, Minnesota, with the other, less well known location, across the St. Croix River in Hudson, Wisconsin. The original intent of the Carpenter Art Festival was to draw awareness and support for the Wisconsin location.
Last year we had over six hundred people enjoy the art festival, which was a very good turnout for a one-day event. As an established art festival in a great location, we expect larger crowds this year. The Wisconsin Carpenter Nature Center is located three miles south of Hudson, off of County Road “F.”
As Art Director, my intent is to have diverse high quality artwork displayed that is inspired by nature. I also limit the various media represented so that there is not an overabundance of any one type of artwork.
At the end of the event, all the participating artists and vendors are encouraged to donate a portion of their profits to the Carpenter Nature Center.
The location is tremendously pastoral and serene. The Wisconsin Carpenter Nature Center is composed of over 300 acres of rolling hills and prairie loaded with hiking trails, wonderful wildlife, massive oaks and pines.
In addition to high-quality artists , we will also have music performed all day by an award-winning singer, a winery and local brewery will be represented as well as a variety of interesting foods created by Hudson’s own Urban Olive and Vine. The Carpenter Nature Center also displays live reptiles and raptors at the art festival to help educate visitors about the importance of this beautiful natural habitat.
