Volunteers and conservation agency staff recently captured, banded, and released 14 young swans in the Apple River area.

Buck Malick and I joined about 15 other volunteers yesterday to assist U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staff in banding cygnet (young) swans.

We were able to catch, band, and release 14 birds in southern Polk and northern St. Croix counties — mostly in the Apple River subwatershed.
