Join in a day of citizen science on the St. Croix River! Plan to take part in the second annual Bald Eagle Count on Saturday, January 25, 2020. Your help is critical to gathering the data needed to study the health of our national bird in the St. Croix watershed.

In the late 20th century, the bald eagle was on the brink of vanishing from the lower United States. Populations have since recovered, and the bald eagle was removed from the federal list of endangered species in 1995, though it is still considered to be threatened. However, since 2013, there has been a downward trend in the percentage of young eagles recorded on counts across the Midwest. The percentage of young is now about where it was in the late 1960’s. You can help find the reason!

The St. Croix River Association is hosting this one-day bird count between 7 AM and 5 PM on Saturday, January 25th. You can participate anywhere across the watershed – all you need is a survey form.
