About the Presenters

Mike Siemsen is a lifelong woodworker; he learned by trial and error, reading, on the job training and taking classes. He has worked as a house carpenter and in millwork and fixture shops, in his own cabinet and furniture shop, and worked as a restoration furniture maker on 18th century American furniture. He is the chapter secretary for The Minnesota Chapter of  the Society of American Period Furniture Makers and a member of the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild. Mike says “I am pleased to offer these classes as a way to pass along my knowledge and love of the craft of woodworking.”

Jim Van Hoven’s fascination of Windsor chairs started in the early 1980s as a collector. Jim’s quest to learn more led him to read many books, attend several classes (some in a dark garage) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and finally gain recognition from Mike Dunbars, the dean of Windsor chair-makers, Hall of Fame in 1996. Jim is a member of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers and the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. You may also find him at a Folk Art Show or doing demonstrations in period costume.
