Join other community leaders and organizations to share your current plans and get an update on the North Woods and Waters of the St. Croix Heritage Area. “Imagine the Possibilities,” a regional gathering to promote and celebrate the St. Croix Watershed will be held in four communities this spring in Hudson, St. Croix, Gordon (Wisconsin) and Sandstone, MN. (See below for details.)

The North Woods and Waters (NWW) of the St. Croix Heritage Area promotes the rich natural, cultural and historical assets of the St. Croix region and its part in the American story.

A few years ago, 1,600 people in the St. Croix watershed came together in a series of 20 community workshops to imagine the possibilities for a National Heritage Area in the St. Croix watershed. To further these efforts, a non-profit, NWW, was formed to carry out these ideas (regardless of possible designation).

Plan to attend one of these sessions where you can:

  • Share what you are doing to promote our natural, artistic, cultural, historical and recreational resources. Please bring brochures, posters, or other information to share!
  • Connect with others in your region and find out what they have planned for this year and how you can support each other.
  • Give input on the direction North Woods and Waters should take to best serve the region.
  • Receive an update on North Woods and Waters and find out how you and your organization can benefit from NWW’s programs and services.

Dates and times:

  • April 13, 9:30-11:30; The Phipps Center for the Arts Hudson, WI
  • April 27, 9:30-11:30 Audubon Center of the Northwoods Sandstone, MN
  • May 4, 10:00-12:00 St. Croix National Scenic Riverway St. Croix Falls, WI
  • May 11, 12:00-4:00 Gordon Town Hall, Gordon, WI

These events are free and open to the public but registration is requested. To register, visit this website or the NWW Facebook page.

North Woods and Waters of the St. Croix Heritage Area conveys the significance of the St. Croix watershed within the broader national history by sharing stories of the St. Croix watershed, an area in Minnesota and Wisconsin encompassing 8,000 square miles. In telling the region’s stories, NWW highlights the histories of Native American tribes, the evolution of a sustainable lumber industry, and immigrant experiences. In sharing them, and promoting the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of the area, NWW board, advisors, and volunteers encourage heritage tourism and economic development in alignment with conservation of the area’s social, natural, economic, and cultural resources.

For residents, celebrating Minnesota and Wisconsin’s iconic north woods and waters reinforces a distinctive sense of place and shared heritage. NWW knits together the watershed’s diverse array of communities and organizations to share and protect natural, cultural, historic and scenic assets and to deepen residents’ knowledge of the resources in the St Croix River watershed.
