Spring-fed creeks along the St. Croix River are still open and tinkling along even when the air temperature dives far below freezing.

Here are a few scenes from Thursday morning in Scandia: steam rising from the river in a short patch of open water below the mouth of a stream. The wet air coating nearby grasses and trees in a frosty coat.

A bald eagle flew across the river shortly before filming, otherwise there were few signs of life.
