August 20 Update:

Via the MN Department of Transportation

Repairs to a storm sewer pipe on the Wisconsin bluff at the end of the new Highway 36/64 St. Croix River Crossing bridge in St. Joseph Township, Wisconsin, have been delayed until next Monday, Aug. 27.

Repairs had originally been scheduled to begin today with a lane closure on the eastbound bridge. However a modified plan now will use a barge moored beneath the bridge to place rip-rap to repair the shoreline and restore the St. Croix River’s eastern shoreline. Work on the storm sewer pipe will be carried out from land with crews reaching the location from the Wisconsin State Trunk Highway 35 overpass. The new plan will not affect traffic on the St. Croix Crossing bridge.

Original post:

One lane and the shoulder on the eastbound side of the St. Croix River bridge near Stillwater will be closed starting Monday, August 20 for repairs to a sewer pipe damaged by heavy rains in June.

The project is expected to take until the middle of September.

The lane will be closed from the middle of the span to the Wisconsin Highway 35 overpass at the top of the bluff.

A crane will be placed in the closed lane to facilitate repairs below the bridge. A barge will also be working below, including adding material to stabilize the river bank.

Because the closure will be on the eastbound, or south, side of the bridge, the work will not affect the pedestrian path on the westbound side.

The Star Tribune reports that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation made temporary repairs after the June storm and will now make permanent repairs.
