The National Park Service will host it’s first-ever programming focused on engaging the LGBTQA communities in Minnesota and Wisconsin in outdoor recreation within their local national park – the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway.

Families and friends alike are welcome to experience an inaugural trip — or second or third — between Minnesota Interstate State Park and Osceola Landing in a canoe or kayak. Pride on the St. Croix is a multi-faceted program along this 6.5-mile stretch with something that everyone in any group will connect with and enjoy.

Activities for the day include birdwatching with experienced birders, LGBTQA story-sharing, en plein aire artistry with notable photographers, walks with master naturalists, exploring touch tanks of river fauna, and much more. Outdoor and recreational organizations, such as REI and National Park Conservation Association, will be on site to help visitors plan their next trip outdoors. National Park Service staff and volunteers will be available for water safety instruction, and to swear in the next set of Junior Rangers. (Note: St. Croix 360 editor Greg Seitz will be paddling with participants.)

The location of the paddle features stunning scenery that embodies the Wild and Scenic River designation by which the park was created. Additionally, “Pride on the St. Croix” was designed so even the most beginner paddler could sign up for the paddle, learn the ropes, and get their feet wet.

Details of the “Pride on the St. Croix” paddle can be found on the park’s website, or on the website of the friends group, St. Croix River Association, at this link.
