A popular program to get military veterans out on the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers has been featured in a new National Park Service video.

Vets on the River organizes paddle, kayak, pontoon, and other trips on the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway. It provides the healing effects of nature, and opportunities for camaraderie with other veterans. The program was featured in a St. Croix 360 story in 2013.

In the new video, Iraq War veteran and Vets on the River kayaker Rob Boss explains how paddling down the Namekagon with fellow veterans has helped him manage Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

“Vets on the River is an amazing program that provides a great opportunity for veterans suffering from PTSD, an opportunity to gain another support group,” says Boss. “Just being with nature and being outdoors, being on the relaxing river, it allows us to open up with each other, which we so need.”
