A National Park Service ranger at the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway was recently featured in an article on MPR News. Ranger Michael Gavre just started working for the park in May, after a career as a Marine and the Department of Defense.

“I can’t believe they pay me to do this,” he told reporter William Lager.

Gavre took the journalist out on the Park Service’s pontoon boat based in Stillwater, also carrying several visitors on a tour. Along the way, he shares information about the river’s history, ecology, and other fascinating aspects.
