Enjoy St. Croix River art, poetry, and stories at “Reading the River” on October 2nd as part of ArtReach St. Croix’s Bend in the River show. Artists who have completed residencies at the Pine Needles Cabin on the banks of the river in Marine on St. Croix are invited to reunite and share their work – and attendees will have a fun opportunity to write and share their own short poems.

The event will feature Susan Armington (whose “River Stories” paintings are currently on display in the gallery), Laurie Allmann, who was the first artist-in-residence at Pine Needles in 2002, and Greg Seitz, publisher of St. Croix 360, who will read and facilitate the St. Croix River Haiku Twitter Challenge, a participatory poetry activity.

“Reading the River” is presented by ArtReach St. CroixSt. Croix 360, and the St. Croix Watershed Research Station.

The Artist at Pine Needles residency program of the St. Croix Watershed Research Station invites natural history artists or writers to spend 2 to 4 weeks to immerse themselves in a field experience, gather resource materials, and interact with environmental scientists and the local community. The setting for the Artist at Pine Needles project is the James Taylor Dunn Pine Needles Cabin, located just north of the village along the St. Croix River.

Any Pine Needles artists are invited to participate – please contact Susan Armington at armington007@gmail.com as possible if you are interested.
