Aspiring anglers wishing to ply the famous fly-fishing waters of the St. Croix can try the sport at an event on Monday evening, with guidance from professional fishermen.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler, this is a unique, no cost, opportunity to learn about fly fishing on the St.Croix River. Participants will become familiar with equipment used in warm water fly fishing, observe tying demonstrations, and actually get to fish –all for free!

A group of anglers passionate about fly-fishing the St. Croix is hosting  the program, which is organized by guide Bob Bickford of St. Croix Valley Adventures.

“The St. Croix River has a reputation all over the world for great fly-fishing, thanks to clean waters, wild scenery, and big, healthy fish populations,” Bob Bickford says. “Event participants will get a chance to fish the river with the pros, using their equipment and unique drift boats.”

Attendees can try casting a fly rod, check out intricate fly designs, and — most importantly — get out fishing in a drift boat, the unique craft that are popular on western rivers and adopted by serious anglers in these parts. With a guide rowing, the boat provides a stable platform for two anglers to cast.

Adults and children 14 years of age or older accompanied by an adult are welcome! You’ll need a fishing license and a life jacket if you’ll be heading out in the boat.
