Volcanic Rock and Minerals

Saturday, June 14, 10 – 11 a.m.

This week, join UW-River Falls Professor Bill Cordua for an explorative walk through the park’s lava flows. Here we will learn to recognize local rocks and minerals and learn what they tell us about the park’s fascinating geological history. The walk will be less than one mile in length, but will have some rough, rocky terrain and stairs. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a sense of adventure. Meet at the Visitor Center.

The Power of Glacial Meltwater

Saturday, June 21, 11 a.m. – noon

This week, join UM-Mankato Professor Chad Wittkop for an explorative hike through the glacial potholes area of the park. Discover how water shaped the St. Croix Valley and created the unique features found there. The walk will be approximately one mile in length, and will have some rough, rocky terrain and stairs. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a sense of adventure. Meet at the Visitor Center.

Seas and Sandstone
