The Namekagon River Partnership is again sponsoring an autumn photo contest for amateur photographers of all ages scheduled for Saturday, October 5.

“This year we are trying a new approach”,says Cindy Ferraro, Board member of the NRP, and member of the contest planning team. “Fall is an amazing time in the northwoods and what a great time to capture the river’s beauty, its secrets, and its stories.”

“Our goal is to provide a fun activity for our members and for the general public; but this time with a twist. All photos will be taken on one single day”, Ferraro adds.

“Although we want to see great photos, it is really more important to get people connected to thiswonderful resource, the Namekagon River.” Last year the organization received several comments as to how the event brought people out to explore, to discover, and to connect to the river. One participant told us “Thank you for bringing this beautiful river to my attention!”

The contest entitled, A Day in the Life of the Namekagon, is scheduled for Saturday October 5, to capture the peak of the fall colors. We have no specific categories this time – just photos that help tell the Namekagon story. Landscapes, wildlife, close ups, autumn, people, activities, history, having fun – it is up to the photographer.

NRP President Frank Pratt tells us “We want people to participate. The Namekagon has so much to offer. In addition to everyday photographers, we’re hoping that parents and grandparents will take their kids and grandkids out to the river that day and make a special memory. They too can enter and be a part of this event.”

“The NRP has added a ‘Kids’ age class this year for kids up to six year old,” says Kelly Nechuta committee member who is excited about giving her 4 -year old son a camera and see what he comes up with. “We will have a fun day exploring the river looking for a winning photo. He is already excited about being a part of this.”

The NRP plans to use the photos to promote their mission: The NRP is dedicated to supporting, promoting, and providing activities that enhance stewardship, awareness, and enjoyment of the Namekagon River, and its watershed. Prizes will be awarded to winning photos in a kids, youth, young adult and adult age class.

The NRP will host an open house ‘Meet and Greet’ for participants at the Cable Wayside & Landing south of Cable. Bring your lunch, meet other participants, learn about the NRP, enjoy treats by the NRP, and share photography ideas – a great part of a special day, at a special time of the year, on a spectacular river. We will be open between 11 and 1:00, so come and be a part of this special event.

Contact Namekagon.org for more information, or project facilitator Dave Thorson at dthorson@centurytel.net, or at 715-376-4260. We will automatically extend the one-day contest through Sunday, if the weather does not cooperate.
