Little Venice Friday Night Program:  Kayaking 101
7:00 p.m. on Mile Long Island, StillwaterIn the early 1900s the St. Croix River north of Stillwater became known as “Little Venice” because of the scenery and solitude found among its tree-covered islands. Discover a new way to explore the St. Croix River – kayaking! Rangers will teach you proper paddling techniques, how to pack for a trip, and let you test out the kayaks we use on the river. Look for the National Park Service boat on Mile Long Island. For more information, call (715) 483-2274.  Free.

Saturday, August 3

Rivers are Alive
10:00 a.m. at Phillipi Landing on Randysek Road in Cable, WI
Explore the world of the Namekagon River. Step into the river with nets and discover what lies beneath the water’s surface. Bring water shoes and dress for getting wet! Call (715) 798-3890 for more information.  Free.

Pace of a River:  Kayaking 101
6:30 p.m. at William O’Brien State Park
Discover a new way to explore the St. Croix Riverway! Learn about planning for a trip, paddling tips and tricks, and try out different types of kayaks. Meet the Ranger at the Lake Alice swimming beach in William O’Brien State Park (Marine on St. Croix, MN). A valid Minnesota State Parks vehicle pass is required to enter the park. Campfire Program
7:30 p.m. at Earl Landing on the Namekagon
Gather around the campfire as a park ranger brings the history of the Namekagon River alive.  (715) 635-8346.
