Video: Helicopter scoops water out of St. Croix to fight Stillwater wildfire

Firefighters successfully squelched a blaze burning on the bluffs with some aerial assistance.

Last week, several area fire departments responded to a “large wildfire” north of Stillwater, near Fairy Falls. The area was inaccessible by vehicles, so a helicopter from Lakeview Hospital assisted by filling buckets of water at the Boom Site boat landing, and dumping them on the flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Both sides of the St. Croix are currently in “High” fire danger. That means fires start easily and spread fast. Burning permits are required. More information is available at Minnesota’s DNR and Wisconsin’s DNR.
