What do people find amazing about the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway? That is the question a quirky new video from the National Park Service attempts to answer.

The video is the park’s entrance in the “Virtual Rose Parade,” an online campaign to create “floats” celebrating National Parks around America.

January 1, 2016 marks the beginning of a yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the National Park Service. The same day, the real world Rose Parade, itself a New Year’s Day tradition for more than a century, will kick off the centennial with a “Find Your Adventure” theme.

That theme will be carried through with a float from the National Park Service featuring horses, mules, and riders, and park-themed floats throughout. Decorators of independent floats are encouraged to seek inspiration from the national parks. Lead sponsor Honda is taking part: Its 100-foot long, 24-foot tall float “connects east and west by paying tribute to the national parks in Japan and the United States, and the friendship shared by both countries,” the Pasadena Star News reported.

The grand marshall will be documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, who highlighted national parks in the 2009 PBS series, “America’s Best Idea.”

The St. Croix’s entry in the virtual parade rattles off reasons to love the river:

  • 255 miles of wild and scenic waters
  • Diverse types of fish, birds, insects, mussels
  • Unique geology and history
  • Camping adventures by boat, canoe, or kayak
