People who love the St. Croix will have ample opportunities to celebrate, protect and enjoy the river next week. The third annual River Awareness Week is organized by the St. Croix River Association, a St. Croix 360 partner.

The week starts in earnest on Saturday with the St. Croix Sojourn, a self-guided paddle tour on the river between Taylors Falls and Osceola.

RiverFest

Hudson, Wisconsin is fully embracing the river this year. RiverFest will run all week long, and include a broad range of activities. You can read all about RiverFest in this column on Hudson Patch or on the River Awareness Week website.

  Monday, July 15, 10 a.m. and Tuesday, July 16, 4 p.m.
• Seminars on wildlife and history at Troy Beach

• St. Croix Sailing School Open Houses
  July 16 and 18, from 2-4 p.m.
• Kids programs at Hudson Library
  Wednesday, July 17 at 1 p.m. and all week during regularly-scheduled preschool story times
• ‘Steamboat Kings’ Concert in the Park
  July 18 at 7 p.m. in the Lakefront Park Bandshell
• Paint a Rain Barrel at Phipps Center for the Arts
  July 16 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
• Riverfront Clean-Up
  July 17 starting at noon
• Splashing Bass Sculpture by Minnesota sculptor, Mary Johnson
  On display all week in Lakefront Park
• Yoga on the River
  Saturday, July 13 and 20 from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
  Lakefront Park by the volleyball courts
• Log Rolling Demonstrations
  July 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., beach at Lakefront Park

Clean-Ups

Volunteers are needed to help pick up trash in and along the river at three events:

• Friends of Wild River State Park Annual Canoe Clean-up Day
  July 13, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• Osceola Landing to William O’Brien State State Park
  July 14 10:30am-3pm
• River Clean-up at Lakefront Park in Hudson, WI
  July 17 – Noon-1pm
