A November trip to the river can help make winter seem all that much shorter. My friend Gabe and I put the canoe in at Interstate State Park on the Minnesota side this afternoon about 2 p.m. and paddled upstream, coming back as dark fell over the valley.
I doubt I will get back out there again before freeze-up, so I will hold onto the memories of clear water, a cold wind blowing up the river, and the dark green of the white pines standing in stark contrast to the other leafless trees.

Greg,
Thanks for the reminder that winter has not shut St. Croix paddling down yet. But where are the large fish photos?Â
Corey – We paddled upstream from Interstate State Park, so I couldn’t help thinking of you and the fact you paddled up the whole river!
No fish, sadly, though not for lack of trying, of course.
