Conservation Corps crewA volunteer event August 6 near downtown Stillwater will put people to work cleaning up debris and garbage left from spring flooding. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon, and will receive a complimentary lunch afterward. Conservation Corps Minnesota youth crews will lead the beautification project between St. Croix Boat & Packet Co. and Sunnyside Marina.

“It’s along the riverfront where there are lots of walkers, so it’s a perfect area to clean up,” says Shawn Sanders, Stillwater city engineer. The volunteer event is made possible by the Fred C. and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation, which also funds Summer Youth Corps participants and service projects in the St. Croix Valley area.

Wear sturdy shoes and protective clothing. The Conservation Corps will provide work gloves, eyewear and hand tools. To reach the volunteer site from Highway 36, drive north on Highway 95 toward downtown and turn right into the gravel lot across from the River Oasis Cafe. To sign up to volunteer, contact Cindy Green at (651) 209-9900 x 16 or cindy.green@conservationcorps.org.
